Class-D microfinance institutions (Laghubitta) are NRB-licensed lenders that serve low-income and rural members through group lending, deprived-sector and micro-enterprise credit, and member savings — not public fixed deposits. They run the highest rates of the four classes, within NRB caps. Compare their savings, loan and base rates below.
Updated from each microfinance institution's latest published rates (Bikram-Sambat month).

A fixed deposit locks a lump sum away for a set period in return for a higher, guaranteed rate. Here are the steps to pick the right one:
Decide your tenor: Match the lock-in period to when you'll need the money. Longer tenors (1–2 years and above) usually pay more, but your money is tied up.
Compare across all 20 banks: Rates differ by bank and change every Nepali month. Comparing the whole market before you commit can be worth a meaningful amount of interest.
Check your depositor type: Individual FD rates are higher than institutional (NRB requires at least a 1% gap), and remittance earners may qualify for a premium of up to 1%.
Read the premature-withdrawal penalty: Breaking an FD before maturity reduces your interest. Confirm the penalty with the bank before you deposit, especially for longer tenors.
Confirm the interest payout: Interest may be paid quarterly or on maturity. Quarterly payout lets you reinvest sooner; on-maturity can compound to a slightly higher total.
Note the effective date: Nepali banks republish deposit rates each Bikram-Sambat month. Always use the latest sheet — our tables show the effective period for every rate.
There are several types of deposit account in Nepal, depending on your goals and how often you need access.

Flexible, everyday access to your money at a lower rate (around 2.75%). Interest is typically calculated daily and paid quarterly.
