About Nirdhan

Nirdhan Utthan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha was established in November 1998 and began operations in July 1999, growing out of the NIRDHAN NGO microfinance program started in 1993 by Dr. Harihar Dev Pant after he was inspired by Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. It serves the poor in under-served and un-served areas using the Grameen Bank group-lending model and its own Self-Reliant Group methodology, with individual loans available to group graduates. The institution operates through 185 branch offices, 10 regional offices and over 23,000 centers, offering micro-loans, member savings, micro-insurance and remittance services. Its mission is to extend financial services and social awareness to the poor in a sustainable manner.
