About Sana Kisan

Established on July 6, 2001 (originally as Sana Kisan Bikas Bank Ltd.) and licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank as a Class-D microfinance institution, SKBBL operates as a wholesale apex lending entity rather than serving individual borrowers directly. It on-lends to SFACLs and other cooperatives, which in turn extend retail group-based microcredit to landless, poor, marginalized and vulnerable rural communities and small-scale farmers. In July 2023 it merged with RMDC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., consolidating its position as the country's leading wholesale microfinance lender. Its outreach spans all 77 districts through more than 1,400 partner cooperatives, with women comprising about 82% of members reached.
