A Normal/Premium Savings account is the most common interest-bearing deposit account offered by every commercial bank (Class A), development bank (Class B) and finance company (Class C) in Nepal, regulated by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). A "Normal" savings account targets the general public with a low or zero minimum balance, while a "Premium" savings account is a tiered variant for customers who maintain a higher balance (typically NPR 50,000-500,000+) in exchange for a higher interest rate and value-added perks such as free debit cards, locker discounts, free cheque books, accidental-death insurance and priority service. Funds are payable on demand; interest is calculated daily on the closing balance and credited monthly or quarterly, with the rate floating around NRB's published minimum savings rate. It is opened by submitting a KYC-compliant account-opening form with a citizenship/ID, a recent photo and proof of address, and is used for everyday saving, salary/remittance receipt, and earning modest interest while keeping full liquidity.
